Minnesota Environmental Fund member organization Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy launched a petition in support of the Fund du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa’s efforts to secure clean drinking water for families in their community. Please sign the petition below.
From MCEA:
The IRRR board singled out and tabled a $250,000 grant application from the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa for a drinking water project on June 10th. The grant would have provided clean and safe drinking water to nearly 30 homes that are currently drinking contaminated water. The grant application was rated highly by IRRR staff and was singled out because some legislators called the band “anti-mining” for their work defending their water, air, and wild rice.
It’s ironic and horrifying that the IRRR board is denying access to safe drinking water as payback for the band’s work to defend their water and resources. Please join us in sending a clear message to IRRRB Commissioner Phillips and Governor Walz that they should overrule the board and fund this project.”
